The WhiteBIRCH Forext Foundation
The Foundation focuses on reforestation projects across South Africa, particularly in areas hit hard by deforestation and changing weather patterns. To date, we have planted over 428 trees across multiple sites, using indigenous South African species that are better suited to local conditions and do far more ecological good than imported varieties.
Indigenous species like yellowwood, white stinkwood, and Cape beech are chosen specifically because they support local biodiversity, improve soil stability, and are adapted to South African rainfall patterns. Imported fast-growing species may look impressive on paper but often displace native ecosystems.
Why trees?
A single tree absorbs up to 22kg of CO2 per year. Our 428 trees already pull more than 9,400kg of CO2 out of the atmosphere annually — roughly the equivalent of driving a car for 57,000 kilometres. On top of that, trees provide habitat for wildlife, prevent soil erosion, and improve local water quality.
Reforestation is not a quick fix for climate change — but it is one of the most tangible, measurable things a small business can do. Every tree we plant is geo-tagged and tracked, so the impact is real and verifiable.
